Hydrogen is the simplest of all gases. The most well-known methods for hydrogen production are catalytic reforming processes (steam reforming) and alkali electrolysis. Due to its physical and chemical properties, hydrogen is used in various industrial applications, such as gaseous fuel for special applications, as an inert gas in heat treatment, in the food industry, and in the electronics industry. Because of its high-temperature conductivity, hydrogen is also used as a cooling gas, for example, in power generators.
More than two-thirds of the world's hydrogen production is used in the chemical industry. The majority is used for ammonia and methanol synthesis. Additionally, the chemical industry employs hydrogen in hydrogenation processes (Hydrofining and Hydrotreating). Recently, hydrogen has been proposed as an alternative source of energy for the future.
